100-ish Word Thought: When It Hits the Fan
Commitment Only Counts Under Pressure
Everyone loves to make a plan when things are calm. (Enneagram 8’s unite!)
The timeline looks great the night before the wedding. The content calendar feels do-able in the off season. You feel unstoppable when the Inbox is empty. You’re full of inspiration sitting front row at a conference.
But commitment doesn’t count when things are perfect.
It only matters when they’re not.
It’s when your day falls apart, your clients do what clients inevitably do, your tech fails you (again), when you’re at 2 days on a project that should have taken 5 minutes.
That’s when the plan matters the most. That’s when you decide whether you’re still in. As in, in.
Marketing is no different than a timeline on the big day. Want to post more? Network more? Finally launch a podcast? Re-do that thing?
Those promises you make to your business, to yourself, mean nothing if you abandon them the second things get hard (or confusing, or annoying or frustrating, or…)
Commitment isn’t about the vow (pun intended!). It’s about the sticking with it. It’s about doing what you say you’re gonna do, especially when it’s too easy to get busy with something, anything, else.
