Why ‘Posting and Ghosting’ Isn’t Working for Your Wedding Business

If you’ve ever found yourself asking, “Why isn’t my online marketing working?” - whether it’s your Instagram, Pinterest, blog, or email list - I want you to hear this loud and clear: it’s not about needing to post more or be on every single platform. The problem is probably that you’re showing up in bursts and then disappearing. You’re posting and ghosting. And it’s quietly killing your wedding business marketing and lead generation efforts.

If you’re wondering why your wedding business marketing isn’t working, it might be because you’re posting and ghosting. In this post, I’m sharing how inconsistent marketing online - from using Instagram to TikTok to Pinterest to your website's blog to emailing or anything else you do online to get more visibility or inquires for your business - hurts your visibility and trust with both the algorithms and your potential clients. I’ll show you how to stay consistent and schedule smarter so your marketing keeps working, even when you’re busy.

Why online marketing isn't working for wedding or event business from Julianne Smith, Garter Girl Creative

I get it. You’re a wedding professional from florist to wedding planner to photographer to bridal shop to stationery designer to DJ to officiant to rental company and so much more. You’re not a full-time content creator or influencer. You’re out there running a business, serving your clients, working weekends, long nights, and juggling a mile-long to-do list. But if you want better leads, stronger inquiries, and more visibility, you have to stop ghosting your marketing.

Many of us in the wedding industry are all too familiar with “ghosting” when a client requests your pricing information, or you get on a call with them, they seem really interested and ready to hire you, only for them to never speak to you again. No return emails. No follow up. Nothing. Like they are a ghost. You’re doing the same with your online marketing and lead generation efforts. You’re showing up in fits and spurts, maybe posting a whole bunch of things at once and then going dark for months, or years, at a time.

Let’s talk about why this inconsistent online marekting approach isn’t working, and what you can do instead to create a simple, consistent plan for getting new inquires online for your wedding business that works for you, even during your busiest seasons.

Why Posting and Ghosting Doesn’t Work

I know it’s tempting to post a bunch of content when you have time, maybe a random free weekend, in the off season, or right before a new wedding season hits, and then disappear for months, or years at a time. I also see many wedding professionals jump on an online marketing trend that seems to be working for everyone else, maybe they want to be first to market or just test it out, but when the business gets busy again, they don’t have the time to keep it up. I’ve seen so many wedding vendors do this on Instagram, Pinterest, blogs, and especially email. But that inconsistency is hurting you in two very big ways that you might not know about:

Reason #1: The Algorithms Don’t Trust You

Whether it’s Google, A.I. platforms, Pinterest, or social media platforms, these algorithms are built to reward content creators who consistently show up. They want to see that you’re producing high-quality, helpful, first-hand content on a regular basis, aka they want you to be the expert that you already are. (Lucky for you, being the expert is no problem!) When you disappear or go dark, you break that trust. And when you come back months, or years, later, it’s like starting from scratch all over again.

This is especially true for long-game platforms like Pinterest, or blogging which serves Google and A.I. like chatGPT. That’s why I wrote this blog post about how to create a wedding business content plan that saves time. If you’re worried that your posts aren’t getting enough engagement or visibility right away, that article will help you shift your mindset and stay focused on the bigger picture. Because here’s the truth: engaged couples take months, even years, to plan a wedding. Your content isn’t just relevant the moment you post it. It’s working for you over time, if you stay consistent.

Reason #2: It’s a Bad Look to Potential Clients

If a potential client lands on your blog and sees the last post was from 2019, or they find your Instagram and it looks abandoned, it sends the wrong message. They might think you’re not in business anymore. Or worse, they might assume you’re too disorganized or overwhelmed to keep up with your own marketing to handle their wedding or event. (An Instagram that hasn’t been updated in months or years doesn’t say “I’m so good at my job I don’t have time for this” it says “I’m flakey and unorganized.”) That’s not the impression you want to give someone who’s about to trust you with one of the most important days of their life.

Same goes for email. If you collect email addresses and then go silent for 8 months, by the time you finally send something, that couple might already be married, or they won’t remember signing up and hit “unsubscribe” marking you as SPAM which hurts your overall “open rate.”

Consistency builds trust. Ghosting breaks it.

You Don’t Have to Do It All in Real Time

Here’s the good news: you don’t need to be online every single day to be consistent. That’s the beauty of scheduling tools. There are more options than ever to help you plan and batch your content in advance. So during your slow season or on a weekend when you don’t have an event, block off a couple of hours to pre-schedule your content. That way, when your calendar is packed, your marketing still runs on autopilot, and you can stay focused on your clients.

If you’re wondering what to post or when to post, be sure to check out this I wrote on starting with the goal in mind.

When I work with wedding pros, I always say this: busy season is not the time to be creating content. That’s the time to serve your clients and do your job. If you’ve planned ahead and your content is already scheduled, that’s one less thing to stress about.

How to Be Consistent Without Burning Out

The key to avoiding ghost mode isn’t doing more. It’s doing less, but doing that thing more intentionally. That’s where having a system comes in. If you’ve ever felt like marketing is all over the place, check out my post on how to make your marketing feel less random and more like a plan.

And if you’re ready to see the big picture, I break it all down in my best wedding business marketing system, which includes info on how to set goals, choose platforms, and use your time wisely.

From Ghosting to Growing

Once you start showing up consistently, even if it’s just once a week or once a month or once a quarter - you’ll see everything shift. Your content starts working harder. Your audience begins to trust you. And those algorithms start showing your stuff to more people.

Remember, you don’t need to be everywhere all the time. You just need to be consistent in a way that fits your business and your life. And with scheduling tools and a clear system, that’s totally possible.

Recap: Stop Posting and Ghosting

Posting and ghosting doesn’t work because it confuses both the platforms and your potential clients. Consistency builds trust, visibility, and momentum. And with smart scheduling and goal-driven content, you can stay consistent even during your busiest seasons. This isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing it smarter.

FAQs

What does “posting and ghosting” mean for wedding pros?
It means posting a bunch of content—on Instagram, Pinterest, your blog, or email—and then disappearing for weeks or months. This inconsistency hurts your visibility, credibility, and overall marketing results. It’s similar to “ghosting” when a client asks for your pricing information and then you don’t hear from them again.

How often should I be posting to avoid ghosting?
There’s no magic number, but the key is consistency. Whether it’s once a week or twice a month, pick a rhythm that fits your workflow and stick to it.

Can I really pre-schedule all my marketing content?
Yes. With tools for blogging, social media, and email, you can batch your content during slower periods so that you stay visible even when you're in the middle of wedding season.

What if no one engages with my posts when I’m consistent?
Don’t let low engagement discourage you. Platforms like Google and Pinterest value consistency and time. Your content will work better long-term if you keep showing up. For more on this, check out my post on creating a content plan that saves time.

Why does it matter if I haven’t updated my blog or social in a while?
Potential clients notice. A quiet or outdated online presence can make them question whether you're still in business. Consistency builds trust and shows professionalism.
