Saying This For A Friend

Perfectionism is getting in the way of your success, but not for the reasons you think. Let me explain: If we were true perfectionists we'd stop at nothing until that thing was just right. At the expense of everything else, we'd go and go until our systems are on lock, clients are flowing like a river and everything is perfect. But, it's not. And we don't. Our marketing is a mess. We haven't blogged in 6 years. Our contact form may or may not work. We're not perfectionists. We're self-loathers. We're experts at excuses. When things don’t go right, we don't spend time re-working it until it's perfect (That's what a true perfectionist would do), we quit. We abandon that thing that isn't right and we blame others. Clients are cheap, MOTBs are rude, Pinterest is DIY-ers, Instagram's algorithm is mean. Even worse though, we blame ourselves. I'm not good enough. My branding isn't right. This video wasn't funny enough. The deep need to be perfect isn't about doing something perfectly and expecting perfect results, it's about not giving up until it's perfect knowing that it may never be.
